Willowbrook students serve as leaders, mentors during visits to elementary schools

On May 1 and 2, students in Willowbrook’s Boyz II Men Mentor Group traveled to Stella May Swartz School and Salt Creek Primary School in Salt Creek School District 48 to meet and interact with the younger children.

At Stella May Swartz School, the Willowbrook leaders stopped by two third-grade classrooms to share story time. At Salt Creek Primary School, the Willowbrook students visited eight classrooms (prekindergarten, first grade and second grade), where they read to the classes, participated in an activity tied to the books and joined the kids for recess.

“It was an amazing experience for all involved!” said Dana Whittaker, Willowbrook Director of Counseling. “Our students loved being in the leadership and mentor role with the younger students, and the elementary students made new friends. Their smiles were infectious!”
