Willowbrook catering students showcase creativity and skills during culinary challenge

On March 14, students in Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher Amy Nowak’s Culinary Arts 3 - Catering class participated in a culinary challenge.

For the contest, students had 40 minutes to create a dish using the seven ingredients listed below. They could choose to add other ingredients available to them in the classroom/lab, but those seven items had to be included. They were given the option to find a recipe or improvise and make their own.

  • Chicken thighs
  • Eggplant
  • Couscous
  • Pomegranate
  • Goat cheese
  • Dried lavender
  • Lemongrass

Three Willowbrook staff members served as judges, and they evaluated the dishes based on appearance, flavor, plating and creativity. The winners are:

  • 1st place: Juniors Madison Vega and Adrian Cavazos

  • 2nd place: Juniors Trent Kovacs and Fletcher Ogren

  • 3rd place: Junior Luis Torres and sophomore Max Kraft
