On March 15, about 45 Willowbrook students who identify as female participated in a workshop focused on connection and empowerment to honor and recognize Women’s History Month.

The event was the school’s inaugural S.H.E. Day, which stands for Support one another, Honor each other and Evolve together. It was led by Student Success Coordinator VaLarie Humphrey, and the theme was self-love, self-esteem and self-awareness. Participants watched a video that showcased the importance of those themes within relationships. They also had an opportunity to ask questions and discuss a variety of topics with a “blue table” panel of District 88 and Willowbrook staff members, who shared thoughts about friendship, women empowerment, body image and more. Staff members who served on the panel are Rachel Karos, Irene Mason, Mary Doro, Elizabeth Hutchinson, Melisa Williams-Rivera and Dani Brink.

Humphrey said the plan is to host similar events throughout the school year to build confidence and personal growth within students.
