Blackhawks Blind Hockey provides opportunity for students with visual impairments to try hockey

On Aug. 17, nearly 40 youths with visual impairments had the opportunity to play hockey at Addison Trail through the Blackhawks Blind Hockey’s “Try Hockey” program. Many of the participants were from the School Association for Special Education in DuPage County (SASED).

The Blackhawks provided an inflatable rink, and participants received instruction to enhance their skills with stick handling, passing and understanding the game of hockey.

“Blackhawks Blind Hockey is a place for people of all ages and skill levels who are blind or visually impaired to come together and enjoy the sport of hockey,” said Mike Svac, a volunteer coach for the program.
