The opening keynote speaker was Dr. Tyrone Howard, a professor of education in the School of Education & Information Studies at UCLA, and the closing keynote speaker was Dr. Taucia Gonzalez, Assistant Professor of Disability and Psychoeducational Studies at The University of Arizona. District 88 Director of Student Services Dr. Raquel Wilson, who helped coordinate the event, said it was remarkable to watch the group of young leaders come together and have deep conversations to help foster an environment of inclusion and belonging in their schools and communities.

“Our students are laying the foundation for a future of empathy and advocacy,” said Dr. Wilson. “The work they did here today – to build the skill, will and knowledge to intentionally make a positive impact within their peer groups and larger communities – creates a stronger leadership foundation for years to come.”
