District 88 implements Postvention Project to support mental health services for students and their families

At District 88, the safety, health and well-being of students and staff is our No. 1 priority.

As part of that focus, District 88 is proud to announce the launch of its Postvention Project, a vital statewide initiative designed to support the mental health of District 88 students and their family members. In partnership with ReferralGPS and supported by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), this project offers an expansion of mental health services that will make it easier for District 88 students and their families to access up to eight in-person or telehealth counseling sessions. It provides comprehensive resources and interventions – not only for those impacted by suicide, but for anyone experiencing mental health concerns. Services can be accessed at referralgps.com/postvention, or by texting “HOME” to 741741. (Anyone in an emergency situation should contact the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline for immediate assistance.) All inquiries will be confidential.

As part of the Postvention Project, an Adolescent Postvention Resources Hub is available at www.referralgps.com/postvention. This dedicated page provides comprehensive resources to support adolescents and their communities. The hub is an essential component to address the unique challenges faced by young people and ensure they have access to the help they need. While the project offers crucial postvention support following a crisis, it also is dedicated to addressing mental health concerns before they escalate, emphasizing the importance of early intervention and access to care for all.

Key features of the Postvention Project include:

  • Access to resources: Direct access to mental health resources, including treatment services and general mental health support.

  • Educational materials: Resources to help individuals, families and communities understand the importance of mental health.

  • Community collaboration throughout Illinois: Ensuring a coordinated and comprehensive approach to mental health, including offering access to Care Navigators to assist with treatment connection and, if eligible, financial assistance for limited treatment sessions from independent licensed clinicians.
