District 88 celebrates African-American History Month

Throughout the month of February, Addison Trail and Willowbrook students and staff participated in events to celebrate African-American History Month.

Addison Trail

  • Students watched the movie "Marshall" on Feb. 22, which tells the story of Thurgood Marshall, an American lawyer who served as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from October 1967 until October 1991. Marshall was the Court's 96th justice and its first African-American justice.
  • Students participated in International Fest Week from Feb. 12 to 16, a weeklong event where they learn about various countries and cultures that culminates with the International Dance Show.
  • Students continue to participate in Youth Equity Stewardship Series (YESS!) training from the Youth Voice Leadership Series, presented by Benjie Howard and Wade Colwell-Sandoval with the New Wilderness Project. The goal is to prepare students to recognize and learn from the diversity around them.

  • The Library Media Center created a showcase display to highlight African-American History Month (pictured above).
