Requests for Spring Semester placement are handled in the following manner:

Procedures for Placement

After the initial application screening, selected student teaching applicants are asked to come into the schools for an interview with the Department Chair and cooperating teacher(s). Interviews take place during the semester before the student teaching assignment is to occur. After the interviews are completed, the cooperating teachers and Department Chair determine student teacher allocations for the upcoming semester. Assistant Principals are consulted to ensure that the placement is appropriate. The placements are approved or denied, and the student teacher applicants and the universities receive a formal acceptance or a rejection email notification.

Student teachers who are accepted receive information about DuPage High School District 88 requirements and the student teacher orientation meeting. Before beginning the student teaching, the following items must be on file with the Office of Human Resources:
1. Evidence of physical fitness to perform within 90 days
2. A fingerprint background check completed at the DuPage Regional Office of Education
3. Verification of viewing the mandatory online training tutorials

Selection

The number of student teachers accepted varies from year to year based upon the number of available cooperating teachers in the content area, program changes, and other district issues.
