Addison Trail hosts annual Kermes (Latino food festival)

On May 13, Addison Trail hosted its annual Kermes (Latin Food Festival). About 300 people attended the event, which featured traditional Latino dishes, live entertainment, raffles and family-friendly activities.

The event was coordinated/run by the following individuals and groups:

• Addison Trail Interact Club sponsors Claire Sychta and Becca Vogt, Addison Trail Social Worker Jorge de Leon and Addison Trail Administrative Assistant Esther Delgado
  
  
• Members of Interact Club, National Honor Society (NHS), Key Club, LADIES (which provides support and ongoing motivational clinics to see that members gain confidence in themselves and realize their true potential) and Puentes (which means “Bridges” in Spanish – this group trains students in advanced English Learner (EL) classes or recently exited EL students to provide guidance and social-emotional assistance to new EL students)
  
  
• Members of Padres Latinos en Acción (Addison Trail’s group for Spanish-speaking parents/guardians)

The event raised about $3,000, which will support student scholarships. During the event, participants also enjoyed performances by the school’s Mariachi Club, International Dance and Energy Rush, as well as a local folklórico dance group.
