District 88 wishes its stakeholders a safe and happy Spring Break

Pictured is District 88 Superintendent Dr. Jean Barbanente.

As we head into Spring Break, I would like to wish our staff, students, parents/guardians and community members a safe and happy week off. I hope you all enjoy some time with family and friends and are able to relax and come back refreshed to finish the 2022-23 school year strong.

2022-23 SUCCESSES AND HIGHLIGHTS
I also would like to recognize the successes and accomplishments our students, staff and alumni have achieved inside the classroom and beyond. So far this school year, pupils at Addison Trail and Willowbrook have received recognition at the state and national levels in academics, extracurricular activities and athletics. SUPERINTENDENT STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE
On March 20, I met with the Superintendent Student Advisory Committee for the third time this school year. The focus of this group is to provide students with a seat at our administrative table and an opportunity to have their voices heard to help shape the future direction of the district. The committee is comprised of students from Addison Trail and Willowbrook, who offer diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

During the meeting, we discussed procedures, trainings/drills and communication related to emergency situations; making sure we share all necessary documents/information to help students prepare for post-secondary success; and cell phone policies. The committee members also provided further feedback on updates to our final exam policy, which will be presented to the Board of Education in May.

We will meet one more time on May 15. I thank the committee members for their insight and dedication to improving our schools.

CALENDAR REMINDER: LAST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR 2022-23
As we’ve previously shared, the school calendar includes five Emergency Days, in accordance with the Illinois School Code. So far this school year, we have used one Emergency Day (school was closed on Dec. 23, 2022, because of expected inclement weather). As a result, the last day of Semester 2 and the last day of the school year will be June 2, 2023, provided no other Emergency Days are needed. Please mark your calendar accordingly.

Thank you to all of our stakeholders for your continued support of District 88. It’s because of your partnership we’re able to accomplish our mission of working for the continuous improvement of student achievement. I look forward to working together to complete another tremendous school year.

With District 88 Pride,
Jean Barbanente, Ed.D.
