District 88 Human Resources - Substitute Teachers

Pay Rates

Daily Substitute Teaching:

TEACHER: Up to $170 a day, for a full day
$20.00 per period

CLASSIFIED $16 an hour

Due to the need for extended planning, instruction and assessment, additional rates for long-term assignments are provided.

What qualifications are necessary to substitute teach in District 88?
Individuals must hold an Illinois Teacher Substitute License or an Illinois Professional Educator License in DuPage County.

What do I have to do to get an Illinois Substitute License?
If you wish further information about substitute license requirements, you may contact the Illinois State Board of Education or the DuPage County Regional Office of Education.

When does District 88 begin hiring substitutes?
The Office of Human Resources begins calling candidates for interviews at the beginning of each semester. All candidates must have a complete application on file in order to be considered.

The following time frame is offered as a sample to help candidates during the process:
Late July through September (1st Semester):

  • Candidates encouraged to submit applications
  • Ongoing interviews conducted
  • Substitutes are hired and added to the call list after completion of substitute training

December through early February (2nd Semester):

  • Candidates encouraged to submit applications
  • Ongoing interviews conducted
  • Substitutes are hired and added to the call list after completion of substitute training

Is it important to call or stop by the Human Resources Office so I am not forgotten?
It is important that the information on your application such as address, phone number, degree, experience, etc., remain current. As changes in this information occur, it is your responsibility to update your account on our online database system. However, it is not necessary to stay in contact with the Human Resources Office so you are not forgotten.
