Addison Trail unveils mural created by English Learner (EL) students

Throughout the 2021-22 school year, about 15 Addison Trail students who are enrolled in English Learner (EL) 1, 2 and 3 classes at the school created a mural with images of places that are important to them and have helped form their identity.

The project, entitled “Snapshots of Home,” was coordinated by Addison Trail EL reading teacher Maria DiNovo, and students worked with Addison Trail art teacher Maria Ramon to design the piece. The mural was an initiative to foster an inclusive environment and a sense of belonging at Addison Trail to meet the school’s core values of ensuring all students, staff, parents/guardians and community members feel safe, valued, respected and welcome – regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or ability level.

On May 24, the mural was revealed during a celebration with students, staff and administrators. To watch the presentation, click on the video above. To view photos from the unveiling, see the gallery below. The mural will be displayed on the second floor of Addison Trail, near the EL classrooms.
