Addison Trail hosts Kermes, Job Expo, Community Resource Fair and mariachi performance

On May 14, Addison Trail hosted its annual Kermes (Latin Food Festival). More than 200 people attended the event, which featured traditional Latino dishes, live entertainment, raffles and family-friendly activities.

The event was coordinated by Addison Trail Interact Club sponsors Claire Sychta and Becca Vogt, Addison Trail Social Worker Jorge de Leon, members of Interact Club and Padres Latinos en Acción (Addison Trail’s group for Spanish-speaking parents/guardians). The event raised about $4,500, which will support student scholarships.

This year’s Kermes was expanded to also include a Village of Addison Job Expo, a Community Resource Fair and a performance by Mariachi Herencia de México (a Latin GRAMMY-nominated group of young Mexican-American musicians from Chicago, mostly between 14 and 18 years old – read more about the group at https://www.mariachiherenciademexico.com). The job expo provided community members with an opportunity to meet with about 20 local employers, and the resource fair connected participants with about 20 local agencies and organizations.
