District 88 shares information about career and college integrated pathways

At District 88, we are committed to making sure students are college and career ready. We continue to focus on teaching skills and offering learning experiences to achieve that goal through providing multiple and flexible pathways for students.

We partner with colleges/universities and local businesses to expand these opportunities, and we look forward to continuing to enhance these initiatives. We’re excited to share the information below, with details about career and college integrated pathways, as well as upcoming informational sessions.

Education Teacher Preparation course
This course is available to juniors and seniors at Addison Trail and Willowbrook.

Through this class, students will get an inside look into the education system, have the ability to earn dual credit with College of DuPage (COD) and gain field experience by working directly with teachers and students in the classroom. For more information, including how to register for this course, go to www.dupage88.net/Pathways. Students can still register for the 2022-23 school year.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Youth Apprenticeship Program and Project Hire-Ed Apprenticeship Program
This course is available to seniors at Addison Trail and Willowbrook.

Through this class, students can earn school credit and receive on-the-job training, all while getting paid through an apprenticeship placement at a local business. Participants are able to gain experience in manufacturing (general manufacturing, industrial maintenance, CNC, machining and electro-mechanical) and information technology (software/app/game design, network and security, database management and data science). For more information, including how to register for this course, go to www.dupage88.net/Pathways. Students can still register for the 2022-23 school year.

With the CTE Youth Apprenticeship Program, students also can obtain consumer education credit and may substitute the third-year science requirement and/or the physical education requirement.

  • A virtual information session about the CTE Youth Apprenticeship Program will take place starting at 5:30 p.m. on May 10. The Zoom link to attend the session is https://tinyurl.com/4sxfy3pe

Students in this course also can qualify for free college credit and paid job training through COD’s Project Hire-Ed Apprenticeship Program, which provides hands-on training to an employee while gaining necessary competency. The program offers skills in a particular occupation, helps connect participants to a career pathway and combines on-the-job training with appropriate instruction. It is commonly referred to as an “Earn and Learn” model. Project Hire-Ed is a four-year program – two years to complete the coursework and two more years working with the employer.

College of DuPage (COD) Technical Education Center (TEC)
The College of DuPage (COD) Technical Education Center (TEC) is designed to give students hands-on learning opportunities. Programs in the TEC area include architecture, automotive, electronics, electro-mechanical, horticulture, HVACR, interior design, manufacturing and welding.

  • A TEC Spotlight will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on May 4 at the TEC building on the main COD campus, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn. For more information, and to register, go to https://www.cod.edu/admission/visit_cod/tec-spotlight.aspx. During the event, participants will have an opportunity to meet with faculty, tour labs and learn about the TEC programs informally in an open-house-type atmosphere.
