As part of its updated strategic plan (which was adopted in November 2020), the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) recently implemented an Equity Journey Continuum. This informational tool is meant to help school districts view data through the lens of equity and identify gaps in student achievement, opportunities and supports.

Through this initiative, districts will be placed along an equity continuum – from Step 1 (large gaps) to Step 4 (minimal gaps) – in the three areas of ISBE’s strategic plan: Student Learning, Learning Conditions and Elevating Educators. More than 20 data elements will be used to determine placement. Districts will begin to preview their Equity Journey Continuum data later this month (in January), and the information will be included on the 2022 Illinois Report Card.

District 88 Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Yvonne Tsagalis shared details of the Equity Journey Continuum during the Jan. 10 District 88 Board of Education meeting. To view the presentation, click on the video and/or the link at the top of the page.
