During the Feb. 22 District 88 Board of Education meeting, Addison Trail Science Department Head Erin Groth and Willowbrook Science Department Head David Garcia highlighted how science teachers are connecting with students, despite the challenges of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
As part of the district’s Remote Learning Instructional Showcase, Groth and Garcia shared information about how the department is engaging students and providing them with meaningful and challenging experiences. They discussed and showed video clips of students and staff using various online tools, including Pivot Interactives and Gizmos. Those programs provide students with interactive virtual labs/experiments and presentations that encourage critical thinking and allow students to direct their own learning.
