It was a tremendous spring sports season at Addison Trail, and the student-athletes certainly continued the Blazer Pride that is Addison Trail Athletics!

Below is a recap with highlights.

Baseball
The Blazers finished the season 11-17 overall and 7-11 in Conference, which tied them for 4th place. The Blazers were led by All-Conference shortstop Michael Scali. He led the team with a .430 batting average. Anthony Carlson and Nicholas Daudelin hit .330 and .324, respectively. All-Conference pitcher Vincent Daudelin led the way on the mound with a 2.91 ERA and 27 strikeouts. A wealth of juniors earned a lot of playing time that will lead to a promising future for the Blazers.

Boys Gymnastics
The Boys Gymnastics Team showed continued growth throughout the season. The team score improved by more than 17 points, one of the highest increases in Illinois. The team ended the year with a 2nd-place finish at Conference and had five All-Conference finishers, including Mateusz Wojdak, Jacob Bastian, Caleb Michaliska, Jakub Sitko and Captain Eric Estrada. Wojdak and Michaliska were crowned Conference champions on floor and high bar, respectively. Wojdak also was a state qualifier and sectional champion on floor with a score of 9.45, and he finished in 13th place at the state competition. This year was very successful for the boys gymnastics program, and the coaches hope to keep the momentum going into next year.

Boys Track
Throughout this season, the Boys Track and Field Team demonstrated significant progress. In all but one meet, the team set at least 20 personal records. The team also set school records in the DMR, SMR and 110 Hurdle Shuttle Relay. With the vast majority of the team’s top performers returning next season, the future looks bright. Cesar Herrera and Dylan Moran earned All-Conference honors. Moran also broke the school records for the indoor and outdoor 3200-meter this season. Hamza Kittaneh took 1st place in the 110HH and 2nd place in the 300LH at the freshmen/sophomore level, Raul Villarreal took 2nd place in HJ at the freshmen/sophomore level, Robert Roszkiewicz took 3rd place in HJ at the freshmen/sophomore level, Alex Martinez won the 3200-meter and took 4th place in the 1600-meter at the freshmen/sophomore level and Patrick Campbell won TJ at the freshmen/sophomore level and set a school record. John Taci took 6th place at the varsity level in the 400-meter.

Boys Volleyball
The Blazer Boys Volleyball Team had a very inexperienced squad this year, but showed great improvement throughout the season. The boys played against one of the toughest schedules in the state and were competitive all season. They took 3rd place in Conference, won their first-round playoff game and put forth a valiant effort against Bartlett in the next round. Justin Werderitch was All-Conference, and Joseph Mosny was All-Conference and All-Area. The team’s seven seniors earned Academic All-Conference honors.

Boys Tennis
The highlight of the season for the Boys Tennis Team came during the team’s last match of the year against Maine East. The competition came down to the very last match, last set and last two points. The team score was tied 3-3, with one match left. Rafal Kaczowka was playing the final deciding match. He took the match to a third-set tiebreaker that went back and forth, and he ended up winning the third set by two points, 12-10. This gave Addison Trail a win for the last dual meet of the season. This match was a key example of how the team grew and became more mentally tough as the season went on.

Softball
The Addison Trail Softball program closed out the season with a 14-14 record and a 3-2 extra-inning loss to Rolling Meadows in the Regional semifinal. The offense was led by All-Conference performers Anna Ruffolo and Isabel Aramburu, McKenna Gayon and three-time All-Conference player Sophia Hawkins. Valentina Pentrelli at first base, Madelyn Biancalana at second base, Isabella Provinzino in the outfield, pitcher Dakota Zimmermann, infielder Elizabeth O’Brien and Jessica Krause at third base were instrumental in solidifying the defensive side. Three newcomers also were pivotal in this year’s success: Madison Domek on the mound, Taylor Gloms playing infield and outfield and Gia Napoli at center field.

Girls Soccer
The team’s record was 6 wins, 11 losses and 4 ties. The girls finished 2-4 in Conference, finishing in 4th place. All-Conference players are Lucia Fullone, Giada Alessi and Valerie Soto. Academic All-Conference players are Claudia Herrera, Jocelyn Gallegos, Amanda Colon and Klaudia Kulikowski. For the first time in the team’s history, five freshmen played at the varsity level. The girls started the season playing some solid teams, which allowed them to show some competitiveness during a challenging season. The team lost a couple of games and won a few mid-season, only to lose by one goal in the playoffs against Glenbard North to end the season.

Girls Track
This year, the Girls Track Team finished 4th in Conference at the freshmen/sophomore and varsity levels. The team placed well in most meets, winning the Addison Trail Invite and the Westmont Invite. This was one of the most complete teams the staff has had the pleasure of coaching in quite some time. The team was led by Lizbeth Balbuena and Alexandra Nava. Outstanding achievements by the team include a team record of 12 All-Conference runners. They are Balbuena, Juliana Tamayo, Viviana Sanfilippo, Madelyn Ford, Stephanie Avila, Paulina Stachura, Francesca Scarabaggio, Kate Diego, Julia Swierzb, Mia Johnson, Alaisia Hunt and Margaret O’Connell. Stachura placed 5th at Sectionals in the high jump, and the team broke the following school records:

  • Nava broke the indoor 300-meter school record.
  • Nava, Tamayo, Balbuena and Sanfilippo broke the indoor 1600-meter relay record.
  • Tamayo, Balbuena, Sanfilippo and Nileena Mahesh broke the indoor 3200-meter relay record.
  • Tamayo, Balbuena, Sanfilippo and Ford broke the outdoor 3200-meter relay record.
  • Sanfilippo broke the indoor 1600-meter and 800-meter records, as well as the outdoor 1600-meter and 3200-meter records.

The school looks forward to more athletic successes during the 2019-20 school year. Go, Blazers!
