SUMMER 2023 BEHIND THE WHEEL
|
Registration for Behind the Wheel during summer 2023, will take place from Monday, March 20 at 9:00 a.m. through Friday, March 24 at 3:00 p.m. A student must be 15 years old by June 5, 2023 and have earned a minimum of 8 credits during the previous two school semesters in order to enroll in Driver's Education Classroom. You may enroll in both Classroom and Behind the Wheel during the summer. If you have already successfully completed (or are currently enrolled in) Classroom, you may enroll in Behind the Wheel only.
There is a new registration process for Summer Driver's Education Classroom and Behind the Wheel. The registration process will consist of the completion of the Google form above. The form will be available at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, March 20 through 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24. Registration will be filled by date of birth with the oldest students being assigned first and working towards the younger students. Students and parents will be notified the week of April 10 if they were assigned a Behind the Wheel spot. At that time, a $220 fee will be due if enrolled in Behind the Wheel only. A $160 fee will be due if enrolled in Classroom only. A $380 fee will be due if enrolled in BOTH Classroom and Behind the Wheel.
As you are completing the Google registration form above, you will be asked to select your driving time, in order of preference and availability. Please take into consideration commitments such as summer school, sports, sports camps, jobs, vacations, etc. when selecting the times your student is available to be taught. The demand for Behind the Wheel is very great and it is usually not possible to change your assignment if you suddenly have a conflict. Scheduling conflicts could result in the student having to take Behind the Wheel at a later date.

Willowbrook High School provides a comprehensive Driver Education Program to all eligible students that reside within the District (whether enrolled in the school or not) between the ages of 15 and 21 who request such a course. The course focuses on preparing students for the rigors and responsibilities of driving. Students will need to successfully complete the classroom Driver Education class, which is one semester long. Students will learn not only the rules of the road but also the dangers of behaviors such as texting and driving and drinking/drug use and driving. A variety of guest speakers are planned every semester, who deliver the latest news and trends in teen driving.
The Behind the Wheel Program consists of six hours of on-street training and at least six hours of observation time. All Driver Education instructors are certified teachers and provide the best instruction available. Behind the Wheel times are scheduled for before school, after school and summer school.
