District 88 students attend Chicago Football Classic to explore college and career opportunities

On Sept. 21, more than 20 Addison Trail and Willowbrook students attended the Chicago Football Classic at Soldier Field, which featured activities for students in grades 7-12 and the collegiate level. The students were accompanied by District 88 Student Success Coordinator VaLarie Humphrey and Addison Trail JROTC Coordinator William Jones.

The event commenced with a College & Career Fair, where students explored a range of educational and professional opportunities. Highlights included the Teen Fest and the BMO Financial Summit, where students engaged in discussions about financial literacy and future career pathways.

One of the most anticipated sessions of the day was the High School Battle of the Chicagoland Bands. Students supported local high school music groups, as they showcased their musical talents in a celebratory face-off.

The day’s culminating event was a spirited football game between two renowned Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Morehouse College and Kentucky State University.

During the event, Willowbrook senior Mariah Green received the outstanding news she has been accepted to Jackson State University. This remarkable achievement exemplifies the opportunities provided by events such as the Chicago Football Classic, where students are inspired to pursue higher education and realize their academic potential.
