District 88 and Elmhurst University receive National Endowment for the Humanities grant to engage students with college-level study of diverse voices in literature

District 88 is committed to providing multiple and flexible pathways for students to ensure they are college and career ready and continues to partner with colleges/universities and local businesses to enhance these opportunities. Read more at www.dupage88.net/Pathways.

One of those collaborations is with Elmhurst University, to provide students with access to courses that allow them to earn college credit. The district is proud to share Addison Trail, Willowbrook and Elmhurst University have received a $59,404 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to help fund the Elmhurst University/District 88 Collegiate Extension Program, “a two-year program engaging underserved high school students with college-level humanities study of diverse voices in literature, through student enrichment and teacher workshops.”

The grant will support the following District 88/Elmhurst University courses:

This funding cycle includes the first round of awards made under NEH’s new Spotlight on Humanities in Higher Education grant program. Developed as part of the agency’s “American Tapestry: Weaving Together Past, Present and Future” initiative, Spotlight on Humanities in Higher Education supports humanities teaching and research projects that benefit underserved populations at small- to mid-sized colleges and universities. Proposals are examined by panels of independent, external reviewers, and there are four levels of review before a grant is officially supported. For more information, go to www.neh.gov.
