District 88 joins with foodservice partner Chartwells K12 to celebrate and recognize School Lunch Hero Day

District 88 thanks its foodservice partner, Chartwells K12, for the company’s tremendous support and partnership. The district and Chartwells K12 celebrate School Lunch Hero Day, a national celebration that takes place on the first Friday in May to recognize the hardworking cafeteria professionals who go above and beyond to serve healthy meals to students every day. Throughout the school year, these heroes of the cafeteria are dedicated to making mealtime a bright spot in a student’s day, ensuring each child is served nourishing meals.

According to www.schoollunchheroday.com, “School Lunch hero Day is a partnership between the School Nutrition Association and Jarrett J. Krosoczka, of the ‘Lunch Lady’ book series, to remind everyone – directors, managers, parents/guardians, students and school staff/administration – that school nutrition employees are superheroes.

To recognize School Lunch Hero Day, Chartwells K12 is sending every associate a special edition apron, or cape turned backward, as a tribute to their superhero status and dedication to serving up happy and healthy.

“Our real-life superheroes do more than serve meals,” said Sarah Warren, Director of Food Service with Chartwells K12 at Willowbrook. “They make a lasting impact on students’ lives, whether it’s by preparing that next meal to help students power through the day, or sharing a welcoming smile.”
