Addison Trail Students and Staff Rally For a Cure: Go Pink or Go Home!

Addison Trail High School Orchesis, Blazettes, Cheerleaders, Poms, L.A.D.I.E.S. and Energy Rush groups will be hosting the 2nd Annual "Go Pink or Go Home!" campaign during the month of October to raise money for breast cancer. Blazer blue will be exchanged for pink as students and staff raise money to support cancer research and honor those in the community and school whose lives have been touched by cancer.

To kick off the fundraising efforts, Addison Trail staff members will have pink hair extensions added to their hair during lunch periods on Monday, Oct. 12 from 11:20 a.m. - 2:15 p.m. By purchasing a $10 ticket, students and staff can visit five local salons that will be available (by appointment) to add a pink hair extension or dye a section of hair pink. Half of every ticket directly benefits the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The participating salons include:

On Tuesday, Oct. 13, the Lady Blazer volleyball teams of Addison Trail High School will be hosting the Willowbrook High School Lady Warriors and sponsoring a "Volley For The Cure" event as they play in support of breast cancer research and awareness. Admission will be free for everyone wearing pink. The sophomore game begins at 5:00 p.m. and the varsity game at 6:00 p.m. Between games, a special volleyball match will be played with survivors, care givers and supporters.

District 88 Open House Night

Parents of Addison Trail and Willowbrook High School students are invited to the annual Open House on Thursday, September 24. Open House offers a first-hand look at students' daily schedules as well as "Building The Future" construction. During Open House parents will have the opportunity to meet their child's teachers, speak with the administration and learn about opportunities for involvement.

Make plans to join District 88 on September 24 to learn more about your child's academics and foster relationships with our staff members.

District 88 Prepares for Opening Day of School on Sept. 8

With "Building The Future" construction progressing towards nearly 60% completion, the 2009-2010 school year for students in DuPage High School District 88 will open on time on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 7:45 a.m. This marks the first full day of classes for students at both Addison Trail High School and Willowbrook High School.

"Building The Future" construction, which began in June 2008, is on-schedule, on-budget and will continue year-round to meet the targeted completion date in the Fall of 2010. The administration and staff are committed to providing a safe learning environment with the least amount of disruption when school opens on Sept. 8. Safety and security in the buildings remain a top priority.

The District 88 Board of Education, administration and staff are committed to "Building Futures" at Addison Trail High School and Willowbrook High School. With an enrollment of approximately 4,100 students, District 88 serves the communities of Addison, Villa Park, Oakbrook Terrace and parts of Elmhurst, Lombard, Oak Brook, Bensenville, Itasca and Wood Dale.

In April 2007, these communities voted to fund a $104.7 million referendum to modernize the infrastructure and the learning environment, representing the most significant renovations to the high schools in the last 30 years.

District 88 Board of Education Appoints Newest Member

During the DuPage High School District 88 Board of Education Special Meeting on August 4, board members voted to appoint Mrs. Olga Flores to fill the vacancy declared on July 13. Flores will take the oath of office during the Board of Education Regular Business meeting on August 24 and serve until the next election in April 2011.

An Addison resident for 15 years, Flores brings experience from her active participation in school and church events, fundraising for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and volunteering for various community programs. Flores has two children and demonstrates a student-centered approach in accepting this position. "I care very much about our children and young adults and the kind of leaders they will become. As a new member, I will have a fresh outlook and will be excited to serve District 88," commented Flores in her application letter.

Following the interview process and yesterday's recommendation by the Board of Education, Superintendent Steve Humphrey commented, "I believe Olga is an excellent choice and will provide meaningful contributions as the Board fulfills the District 88 mission to work for the continuous improvement of student achievement." The district is grateful and appreciative for the willingness of all seven Board of Education members to provide leadership for both Addison Trail High School and Willowbrook High School.

District 88 Prepares for 2009-2010 Student Registration

DuPage High School District 88 will open the 2009-2010 school year with student registration during the week of Aug. 24-28. During the registration process, students and their parents/guardians will pick up class and bus schedules, pay fees and purchase books as well as complete any required paperwork.

Registration will be conducted at Addison Trail High School and Willowbrook High School, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. according to the schedule below. Please refer to registration packets mailed home for alphabetic breakdowns and additional information.

  • Class of 2010 (Seniors) Monday, Aug. 24
  • Class of 2013 (Freshmen) Tuesday, Aug. 25
  • Class of 2012 (Sophomores) Wednesday, Aug. 26
  • Class of 2011 (Juniors) Thursday, Aug. 27
  • *Open Registration Thursday, Aug. 27

*An evening registration session, open to students in all classes, will be conducted on Thursday, Aug. 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Addison Trail and from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Willowbrook.

The first official day of classes at both high schools will be Tuesday, Sept. 8.

District 88 Board of Education Announces Vacancy

The DuPage High School District 88 Board of Education declared a vacancy during a special meeting on Monday, July 13 and announced they are seeking applications to fill the vacancy. 
The appointment of a new Board member must occur within 45 days and this individual will serve until the next election in April 2011.

The qualifications include:

  • Must be 18 years of age by the date of the appointment.
  • Must be a resident of the state and district for at least one year preceding the appointment.
  • Must be a registered voter and not a school trustee or school treasurer.
  • Must complete a Statement of Economic Interest Form and file it with Gary A. King, 
DuPage County Clerk.

Interested candidates should obtain and complete a District 88 information form indicating education, work history and other volunteer or community related activities. In addition, candidates should submit a letter of application outlining why they would like to serve on the Board of Education. Applications will be accepted through Friday, July 31, 2009 at noon and should be addressed to:

Host 2009 Commencement Ceremonies


Addison Trail High School

The Addison Trail High School Class of 2009 will participate in Commencement ceremonies on Sunday, June 14 at 3 p.m. in the high school gymnasium, 213 N. Lombard Rd., Addison.

The featured student speaker will be Lorena Shkurti of Addison who will study sociology/pre-law at DePaul University.

Addison Trail High School seniors left their mark on the “Building The Future” school renovation project by signing a construction beam following graduation practice on Friday, June 5. Since these Blazers are graduating before construction will be completed in the Fall of 2010, the autographed beam will be placed in the newly constructed student commons area as a permanent remembrance to the Addison Trail Class of 2009.

 

Willowbrook High School

The Willowbrook High School Class of 2009 will participate in Commencement ceremonies on Sunday, June 14 at 1 p.m. in the high school gymnasium, 1250 S. Ardmore Avenue, Villa Park.

Featured commencement speakers will include Senior Class President Holly Kosir of Villa Park, as well as Amanda Kelly Lane of Lombard and Brendon Martin of Villa Park.

Beginning in the fall semester, Holly will major in medicine at Vanderbilt University, Kelly will major in journalism and biochemistry at Washington and Lee University and Brendon will major in theatrical directing at Stanford University.

The Class of 2009 represents the 50th graduating class from Willowbrook High School, which opened in 1959. These Willowbrook Warriors also earned the distinction as the first class to achieve Adequate Yearly Progress (A.Y.P) as determined by the federally mandated standards of No Child Left Behind.

Welcomes 2 Returning, 1 Newly Elected Official

As a result of the April 7, 2009 community consolidated election, two incumbents and one newcomer took the oath of office on May 4 as members of the District 88 Board of Education. Donna Craft Cain of Lombard and James “Jay” Irvin of Addison both won re-election and will be joined on the Board by Thomas Edmier of Addison who replaces Jose DeLeon who resigned after 5 years of service.
