Extended Summer Construction Impacts 2009-2010 School Calendar

As a result of the building renovations and enhancements in District 88, changes to the 2009-2010 school calendar have been made to maximize construction during summer months. The revised calendar will help meet the targeted completion date in the Fall 2010. The first student attendance day is Tuesday, September 8 (following Labor Day). View the school calendar here.

Building The Future Highlights

In April 2007, the communities of District 88 voted to fund a $104.7 million referendum proposal to modernize the infrastructure and the learning environment of Addison Trail and Willowbrook.

Totaling $115.3 million, "Building The Future" will represent the most significant renovations to the high schools in the last 30 years.

With completion expected in Fall 2010, the scope of improvements will include:

Technology enhancements
Additional / Up-to-date science labs
Enhanced music / art facilities
New spaces for team learning opportunities
Extensive upgrades to electrical / plumbing
Student-centered commons and guidance areas
Additional classroom and instructional space
Improved handicap accessibility
Additional P.E. and athletic facilities
Air quality (air-conditioning)
Improved traffic flow and parking

Following a Community Groundbreaking Celebration, construction began the week of June 9, 2008 after graduation. Major technology enhancements occurred in Summer 2008 to prepare the buildings for a wireless network environment that was accessible at the start of the 2008-2009 school year. Last fall the buildings opened with significant changes both inside and outside.

Because construction is year-round to meet the targeted completion date in the Fall of 2010, the administration and staff are committed to providing a safe learning environment with the least amount of disruption. Safety and security in the buildings remain a top priority.
